Match day one in the SNC Winter League 2009-2010 season saw Stepney F.C U16s take on veterans NYL of the under 16s league. Manager Chakir Mouden was entering his first complete year at the helm of youth development for Stepney F.C and after taking the case to senior management at Stepney F.C it was agreed that Stepney would be participating with two teams one in the U14 league who would be managed by current player of the season Rachid Chibou and Chakir would take a group of 14 year olds into the under 16 league.
Manager Chakir Mouden talked up for the last 4 weeks of pre season training that the team would be the new kids on the block and that with Stepney's tradition of passing game and attacking flair they could be the team of the year in Tower Hamlets. The atmosphere was buzzing on match day one and Stepney lined up in new strip of burgundy red and a feeling of great expections was felt around the astro turf. Chakir was very happy to see Abdal Ullah, Aboul Boshir, Zak Hussain (senior manager) and Forid along to watch the match along with the usual suspects of Charlie and Akik Miah (much appreciated and thank you).
The first half kicked off with pace and a real determination from Stepney after NYL had taken the lead with a clumsy goal. Manger Chakir urged the team to play to the passing game practised and this is when star players such as Ripon Hussian, Nadir Chentoufi, Tosin Florain and Abduallahi Ali stepped up the tempo. Up front new signing Danny Lombardi was playing a superb role by himself shielding the ball and getting the wingers involved. The equalising goal came after NYL F.C buckled under the intense pressure from Stepney F.C with winger Marcin Kmec scoring.
The second half saw no changes and Stepney started off were they had finished on the first half and it took a wonderful ball from right back Ripon Hussain to put top goal scorer from last winter league Abduallahi Ali to score to make it 2-1. As the result dawned on NYL that they would be victims of Stepney F.C wonderful creative football the referee had a helping hand on getting them on level terms with what seemed offside onside and NYL scored to level 2-2.
The game ended 2-2 with many around the venue knowing that Stepney should have been clear winners. Stepney had won many admirers on the day and many that envy the clear quality on display most notably defending champions Newark F.C who know they have a battle on there hands.
